Oh, I totally don't agree with the campaign. But, one of the only ways PETA gets any attention is through controversy (a good example), so I think that is a huge reason why campaigns such as these pass the approval committee. Any news is good news, right?2001-03-30
louis, 19:00: #
for clarification purposes, i was bashing the campaign, not PETA in particular.Cindy, 15:18: #
Feeling an obligation to defend PETA's campaign, but not wanting to support this particular campaign, here is some more information, not from an animal rights group, that is the basis and reason for any "no milk" campaign. If you want more information, please contact me. Dairy products are a controversial subject still, but personally being allergic to dairy and still pushed to have dairy products (I'm vegan), I'd like to give anyone who's interested facts on the other side of the spectrum that are both interesting and helpful in anyone's life.louis, 13:43: #

so, tonight, i decided i'd stay up until i was satisfied that i had made a good chunk of progress on the AcadWeb and Tufts Nutrition work I have sitting around my various inboxes. i guess that's why i'm still up. i did accomplish quite a bit, however, including acquiring three new domain names [ to be unveiled shortly ], making large-scale updates and modifications to my résumé, and getting through about fifteen e-mail chores i had previously lined up. now, i must go sleep, so that i can make it to my 09:30 rehearsal awake and ready to bust out some mad bari action. in fact, that's the main thing that will inspire me to get up: i love playing bari.louis, 02:18: #

two more photoslouis, 17:18: #
so i went to bates to see barbara. after jotting down some instructions from Bates's website, i headed off in my dad's Cabrio. it was so pretty outside! i got in a groove of driving about eighty on ninety-three north. all of the sudden, i was amidst the beautiful white mountains. 'oh fcuk,' quoth i. 'i've gone the wrong way.' but it was such a beautiful wrong way to take, you see. i quickly pulled off at the next exit and explained to some dude that i was a masshole gone astray, and wondered what the easiest way to ninety-five was. he suggested i go an hour in the direction from whence i came.as i passed over a bridge on my way back, i cursed myself for being somewhat concerned about time. the lake was so reflective [ similar example ], i just wanted to stop, get out of my car, descend the hill, and shoot some photos. but, alas, my quest southward continued. as i got to one-o-one, i headed eastbound for a while, enjoying a nice sunset on my way. oh, how hard life can be. in several minutes, i was on ninety-five, making 'good time' and i crossed into maine. the rest of the journey was straightforward as driving journies go. when i arrived at Bates, five hours after i had left Boston, i had gone through a tank of gas and ten bucks in tolls. thank you, New Hampshire, for making me pay so many tolls.
anyway, when i arrived at Bates, Barbara and i left for dinner at a Thai restaurant. after a nice dinner and chat, we headed back. when we arrived, Sarah [ not smarples ] and her brother, David, were doing shrooms. needless to say they were amusing for the rest of the evening. we went to see Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon. wow.
the next morning, after waking in someone else's bed [ see below ], i ate with some Bates kids and then we went shopping. among the list of things to buy: a birthday present for Jessica. choice: b'loonies. and cake. the cake was crazy. even crazier, though, was that the layers separated whilst we drove back from the store, so we constucted a bit of structural support with sparklers and candles. the cake was consumed in conjunction with the requisite St. Patrick's Day Guinness and Killian's Irish Red. then we wandered hither, thither, and yon, from place to place to chill with people. we saw some guy singing raggae tunes. i saw two other people that i knew from 'home.' after some good 'ol chillin', i fell asleep. next morning, i was outta there before 08:15, in an attempt to get home early to make it to all of the things that i had set up for that day. as Murphy's Law would have it, everyone cancelled. so i was left to lead the hard life of chillin' around here. tomorrow, i leave for San Jose. spring break rules.

one of the main drawbacks to not having my camera is that i have to take pictures with an analog camera. but i like my nikon N660. the drawbacks include: wieght, awkwardness, and developing time. to get my photos online without a scanner, i have to get a "photo cd" and then manipualte / edit everything. the cd itself (with film developing) taked 3-5 days. so, pictures i took last week, that i was so excited about, are only getting online now. <groans>- apartment complexities [event]

i'm really starting to hate nikon. first, the camera breaks. again. so i send it in to get fixed. they send me a little note in the mail telling me what i already knew. the drive mechanism for the lens was broke, and it needed to be replaced. no charge. it's under warranty. i call, they tell me that i'll have the camera back very soon.so i patiently wait, calling the front desk of work every five minutes to see if the camera has arrived yet. i pester every single delivery driver who comes to the office. okay... so i wasn't patient. i just want my camera back.
so today, i come into the office. i stroll upstairs. on a whim, i check my mailbox, which isn't a mail "box" at all, it's rather a hanging file folder amidst hundreds of other people's "mailboxes." anyways... i check, and there's a letter from nikon. it says "RE-ESTIMATE" in big red letters on the front. i know that this is not good news. i open it, and now they're telling me that the damage is "impact damage" and that i have to pay to get it fixed. $203 to get something that is still under warranty fixed. i don't think so. you better believe that they're going to hear from me when they open tomorrow morning. and they're going to regret it..

Today I'm not turning on my computer for a break of sorts. So now I'm at the computer lab, blogging on an iMac for some insane reason. Things have been really hectic these last few days. Cindy- I'd give you another opinion about the DMB album, but I've only heard parts of it while in other people's cars. *shrugs shoulders* On a completely different (and more encouraging) note, the States play ("Cagebirds") is having an open dress rehearsal next Thursday, March 15. We're not doing the encore thing this year, partly because Cohasset is having issues, and yeah... anyways, I hope everyone can see the play on Thursday. It has great acting, make-up, costumes, set design, and music. I've heard mixed reviews about the play itself. In my opinion, it was pretty good. If you can't see it Thursday, they're performing it at 4:00 on March 17 at Durfee High School in Fall River. (semi-finals) For more information about that, go to mhsdg.com . Right now, I'm listening to a song that they used called "Return to Me" by October Project. It's cool. Yay. Have fun. I'm glad that everyone survived the storm, especially those living practically on the water. *cough cough no name necessary cough cough* Good night!2001-03-07

Can someone else besides Louis give me their opinion on the new DMB album? I've been listening to it more and more, and more and more have become disenchanted with the whole thing. It just doesn't sound like DMB anymore, and I'm disappointed. My roommate was trying to convince me that all bands need to evolve in order to stay alive, but it's one thing to evolve into a more mature or individualized sound, and definitely another to sound more mainstream. I mean, the next time I go to see them (April 21st), I'm not going to be excited to hear a song called "If I had it All", but I am going to scream if they play something simply titled "#41".louis, 13:01: #

my powerbook g4 arrives today. my first objective is to not short it out by "pulling a louis" and doing something smooth like drooling on the trackpad. photos to come.louis, 09:29: #

really now. how does verizon hire these people that call and try to sell me dsl without knowing what speed it runs at? i had to wait for the operator to get a "technically-oriented" person on the phone to get a straight answer about speed, and even then she couldn't tell me speed. 500k? 1.5 megabit? these are simple questions that someone selling dsl should be able to tell me.
my solution, as usual, is to banter technical terms with the salesperson until they get fed up with my babble and stop listening to me. sometimes i like to slip nonsesnse in just to see if they'll notice.
[me] :: "well, if i connect my twenty-grade uplink through your service to a ninety-grade line, and publish xml through a cgi asp interface, wouldn't i be able to immediately exfoliate the connection in order to reduce cyclic redundancy checks? <pause> oh, of course, i could just secularise the marnet boolabaise! <longer pause> so i guess i don't need your service."
[saleslady] :: "um, okay, thanks." <hangs up>

So the couple next door was at it again tonite, and my roommate and I decided to retaliate this time... We found a few of the most annoying songs I had on my computer (i.e. Violent Femmes "American Music," Guns 'N Roses "Paradise City," etc.), faced my tiny little speakers to the wall, and blasted them. I mean, blasted them. My poor speakers! I hope they got the point, and even if they were being too loud to hear the music, at least my roommate and I got some amusement out of the situation.louis, 20:53: #
