I've come to the harsh realization that I'm unbelievably weak. After having surgery on my knee yesterday, and being confined to the annoyance of crutches, pain has proceeded to flow through my upper arms and shoulders. Granted, I'm a chick and I'm not "supposed" to have some thick, bench-pressing arms. But yo, it's ass trying get up from the computer (work) and trying to hustle my way to the ringing phone before my machine picks up (where people normally just hang up instead of leaving a quick message).Crutches also pose another problem, that being that I can't carry shit. Sure, I could sport one crutch and grab my cup of ice water with the opposite hand. But that's just asking to have back problems in the near future. Lord knows I have zero muscle capacity in my back as well.
At the ripe age of 19, I need a walker. Better yet, I could rock a wheel chair ... but that would make it awfully hard to get up the stairs to my condo.

I have been absent haven't I? I'm having a bad day, and this is the day I pick to post? Lucky you guys right? I envy you people who actually have "vacation" time, I unfortunately am not extended this privilidge as my insititute, in their wisdom, decided to throw it out the window. Yes that means no summer. Anyway, I still need to get to know you people, I've got to find the time to go through all the archives and attempt to form my mental images.2001-08-09

"it's the chance of life. get ready set fly, high, above the fear of your mind. go for it. it's hit or miss, too late for you to quit. you gotta show 'em how bad you really want this. live your dreams. it's not as hard as it may seem. you gotta work together. on your hopes, you will see. from your fear, you have to wean yourself. it's all or nothing. give your everything. you are what you believe. this is it. all eyes on you."2001-08-05

Everywhere I go anymore, a TV is on.There are four in my condo, three of them are constantly on (the one that isn't is the one in my bedroom). Two out of my three neighbors, who's windows are always open, always have their TVs blaring.
Tons of TVs in sports bars, all to different stations and games, none of which you can hear.
TVs were forever on in most of my old jobs (one of them being a radio station ... go figure why the TV would be on).
Every store I go into has a running. JC Pennys (TVs on the walls playing music videos, mini-TVs behind the counters for the employees); 7-11 (at least three TVs suspended from the ceiling); movie theater (granted, it is a movie theater).
I find that my bordem with TV and movies stems from the fact that most storylines don't keep me occupied. It's always an action flick, where things blow up. Or there's the James Bond-like line-up where some guy saves a girl and they end up either A) knockin the boots or B) fall in love. Sometimes both happen, but that's quite rare. Then there are tear-jerkers. I have enough random drama going on in my life, I don't care to view a movie/show that is going to make me fight someone over the last tissue.
Either you have to have multiple plots, or you have to be funny. And I'm not talking run-of-the-mill Michael J. Fox funny. I want Chris Rock kind of funny. I want you to say/do something that is at least semi-controversial. Or you have to say something that strikes me as, "Holy shit, you're a genius." Make me worship you, not just giggle hesitently.
Then there's the multiple plots requisite: there's only one show that I've found that does this effectively, and that's ER. I wasn't much of an ER watcher when the show first aired, but now I'm scrambling through sindication heaven (TNT) to catch what I've missed in years passed. And as luck has it, TNT airs older ER shows constantly. In the mornings and the evenings.
I'm finally getting to enjoy something on TV. Oh the bliss ...

last night was fun. the sysop for the box that hosts all of my projects at work fcuked up mysql such that all pages that interact with databases spat out errors and didn't have content. this, of course, went on for seventeen hours and was all blamed on my team. the louis was not happy. but now it works fine. so this much is good. i think i will celebrate by going to see a couple dmb shows at meadows in hartford.Cindy, 00:54: #
By the way, I'll be home in ten days. Yeay.Cindy, 00:54: #
I learned the word for "multitasking" the other day. It literally translates into "doing three things but thinking of two". Cool huh? I love Chinese.2001-08-02

funny this talk about multitasking. i was just thinking about this whilst i was talking on the phone, cleaning the kitchen, unpacking the groceries, cooking dinner and yelling back and forth to devin in the other room. of course i write this while i decompress shns, manage server logs, talk on instant messenger, listen to music, sing along and sniffle because i am allergic to my office. yay for multitasking. yay.Sidney, 18:28: #
Yesterday morning while eating my toast (freshly dunked in o.j.) I broke out the San Diego Union Tribune (SD's major newspaper) to find a semi-disturbing article in the center of the front page."Multitasking drains brain" is the headline.
The article goes on to say the following:
"Scientists have bad news for people who ehting they can deftly drive a car while gabbing on a cell phone.
The first study using magnetic resonance images of brain activity to compare what happens in people's heads when they do one complex task as opposed to two tasks at a time, reveals a disquieting fact: The brain appears to have an finite amount of space for tasts requiring attention."
And now, I know why I'm constantly tired.
It doesn't bother me to know that I shouldn't be driving and using a cell phone at the same time, mainly because I would never own a cell phone (I don't care to have people contacting me whever I go) and I don't have a car. But ouside of that, I am the multitasking queen.
I can't just do one thing at once. Hell, I'm even doing three different things while writing this - talking on the phone, drinking mountain dew, speaking to several people on IM. And apparently this is drains the brain yo.
My multitasking skills was the reason that I was such a hot commodity at my old job - the job that I quit because I couldn't handle all the things I was given to do. Ironic, no?
There is no real point in this post ... but it does provide further evidence to show that you shouldn't talk & drive (which leads to people like me damn near being hit by you causing me to tailgate you and following you to your destination where I then destroy your silly little phone).
