indeed, there are no endings in life. just beginnings. happy louis. too busy for photos at the moment.

one of my projects for this semester (for school) is to write a big paper and design usability studies that investigate issues surrounding browsing the web with audio media (speech browsers, et cetera). i'll be using the perseus project as a case study, but will post the paper up here for all you kids interested in seeing what i have to say. after that, if i get a grant i applied for, i'll be designing and running a workshop about ways to make a site more accessible. w00t! w00t!

last night, emily and i ran into our friend kevin, and the three of us went to see 40 days and 40 nights, a romantic comedy situated in san francisco. i'm a sucker for these movies [ yeah, okay—for romance in general ], so i must say i enjoyed it. it was cute, although a little lame at points. if you don't feel like dishing out eight bucks or whatever to see it or you're too lazy to find a pirated copy, check out the movie's site. it's neither the most usable nor the sleekest site i've encountered, but there are links to some cool sites about abstinence, a bunch of quicktime clips from the movie, and interesting facts. for example, i bet you didn't know it's illegal to have sex with a virgin in the state of washington. see, you learn something new every day.

moo! aryn got a new camera today, a sony F707. ken is jealous. just before getting the new camera, aryn took pictures of his woman's new blue hair, after it's first wash. jodi has blue hair, and it looked really cool while being washed. and... aryn is going to be in boston this week. call him if you want to say hi, he'll be in town from wednesday night (late) to monday evening.

so i've been making a lot of changes to my photos lately. the latest change is that they're sorted by date. older photos are appearing as i have time to re-put them into the database. two "new" shots (from march 1).

thinking i might add to some of my photos' value, i've finally included a caption. some times i have interesting things to say (i think, at least). other times, well, i don't. nonetheless, enjoy!

also, i've been playing with photo collages recently (a concept i picked up from jim @pixelpile who got it from phineas, …). it's been fun to create photoshop files that are 30,000 pixels wide and just play. hell, i figure this box has 768 megs of ram, so i might as well use it. so, here are the results of my first collages (click on each image for a bigger version):

just discovered a series of cool photos by carlos pino coelho. i've spent a good part of my life in lusophone countries, so i was pleasantly reminded of portugal's (and other lusophone countries') distinct culture. for example, see portrait from santa barbara de nexe (algarve, portugal). good stuff, i say.

so the new soulive album, next, is good. among the coolest tracks is joyful girl, an ani difranco cover with dave matthews on vocals. i think i like the album so much because it's so fresh—the same reason i like more recent radiohead albums. so you should check it out. there's a good review of the album at jambase.

my photos are back up (some new ones are below, for your perusal). back in january, i messed up the database because i forgot the "where" clause of the sql update statement. (for those who don't know sql, essentially i changed information for all of my photos at once, instead of just one photo.) so, i hacked together a system i'm using now to do damage control and re-post older photos. they'll all be appearing in the coming weeks. just you wait.

in going through those past photos, writing in my journal, as well as thinking about life, i've learned a lot. perhaps it will suffice to say that i've grown. i've realized that, contrary to what i said before, there are no endings in life. (noah, nigel, and many others seem to agree.) in many ways, my life has not changed. in others, it has. i have realized that there are some things that i regret, and others that i do not. i've written much about these things, and i'll share some of those writings in due time. (do i sense a new site…? *grin*)

for now, i've got memories to celebrate and things to look forward to. i may be on my own for a while, but i'm stronger and actually have a grasp on my feelings.

perhaps more important, i am back, and i'm here to stay.

Last night, one of my friends from Tower (Jay) walked me home after I had finished my clean-up duty, and we ended up talking until almost 6 this morning. We just chilled in his room and talked about any and everything--it was awesome. When I was falling asleep later, I realized that one thing I miss the most about dating is being able to talk for hours on end. Even though my friends and I talk like that, there's something that's different about it. And that made me sad because I think that my chances with this other guy, whom I met earlier this year, are gone...for a reason I don't know. There was just one day when he stopped really talking to me, and I wish that wasn't the case because he'd be a great friend to have. Sigh. Anyways, I need to sleep and do work. bye.
