a portion of nelson mandela’s cell, still intact, at the prison on robben island

nelson mandela’s cell, robben island - january 22, 2001

robben island, for forty or more years off the coast of cape town in south africa, housed political dissidents and others considered to the apartheid regime. nelson mandela, who later became the president of south africa, spent almost twenty years on this island, living in this very cell.

if you’re ever in cape town, i highly recommend taking the tour of robben island. it is important to see the way things once were under the apartheid regime.
